Institutes
The Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies comprises Heidelberg University’s Centre for East Asian Studies, the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies, the Institute of Anthropology and the South Asia Institute.
Centre for East Asian Studies (ZO)
The ZO comprises four professorships of Chinese Studies, two of Japanese Studies and two of East Asian Art History. Additionally, regular guest professorships have been established in all three departments and a guest lecture programme focusing on the history, culture and society of Taiwan.

Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS)
The HCTS comprises five professorships for Global Art History (with a focus on South Asia and the Middle East), Buddhist Studies (with a focus on South- and East Asia, including Tibet), Visual and Media Anthropology (with a focus on South Asia), Cultural Economic History (with a focus on Japan) and Intellectual History (with a focus on China), as well as two professorships from another CATS-institute and a non-Aisa-focussesd discipline from the Humanities and Social Sciences respectively.

Institute of Anthropology (IfE)
The institute of Anthropology comprises two professorships, two associated professorships are located at the HCTS and the SAI. The regional focus in research is on the insular and the continental South East Asia as well as South Asia..

South Asia Institute (SAI)
The SAI comprises seven professorships in Development Economics, Anthropology, Geography, History of South Asia, Cultural and Religious History of South Asia (Classical Indology), Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures (Modern Indology) and Political Science of South Asia. Furthermore, the Indian Government finances the Heinrich Zimmer Chair for Indian Philosophy and Intellectual History; Pakistan funds the Allama Iqbal Professorial Fellowship and Sri Lanka enables the Chair of Sri Lankan Studies. Three associated professorships are located at the HCTS.
